d) The Daily Blog: Into the Mind of a Computer
We've all seen the decision trees chess programs use to calculate their
next move. But those quickly fleeting lists of numbers and locations

b) 2005 Editors' Choice Awards: Enabling the Intelligent Enterprise
Each January, Intelligent Enterprise presents the Editor's Choice of
the
top IT solution providers who are leading their customers to the
promised land of improved enterprise decision-making, optimized

down
into "The Dozen" (the top 12 companies overall) and the 48 additional
"Companies to Watch" across four critical solution categories. Now's
your chance to tell us which companies stood out in 2004 and why you
think they deserve recognition. Make a nomination and then look for the
January issue of Intelligent Enterprise Magazine to see how your choice
stacked up against the competition in 2004.

b) Content Pipeline
When you need to connect disparate content stores, you can use content
integration software, federated search, portals or a new option called

c) Why It's Time for FP++
Finding a measure to effectively size applications has never been more
complicated. Here's how using a 30-year-old concept can help.
http://update.networkcomputing.com/cgi-bin4/DM/y/ekQv0GPvuP0G6u0CucF0AE

d) An 'Apt' Approach to Linux Configuration Management
Linux configuration management need not lead to the development of an
unhealthy phobia. An application called Apt makes the entire process
quite simple.
http://update.networkcomputing.com/cgi-bin4/DM/y/ekQv0GPvuP0G6u0CuKE0An

e) IP's Future Is Now

5) Download Mania: Select Files From IT Pro Downloads

a) IpMaster
IpMaster sniffs, or monitors, Internet and/or network data packets
coming in and going out of your PC and network. It allows packet
filtering, so you can see only the data you wish to see, and puts aside
information that does not pertain to IP addresses and/or port numbers
you want to examine or track.

6) Eye on Security

a) Alertcon: Apple QuickTime Vulnerability to Integer Overflow
Apple QuickTime versions 6.5.2 and earlier are vulnerable to an integer
overflow. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to
overflow
the buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system.
http://update.networkcomputing.com/cgi-bin4/DM/y/ekQv0GPvuP0G6u0Btri0A1

b) Security Threat Watch: MangleMe Tool
Many Web browser bugs have been surfacing lately. The bugs range from
simple browser crashes to more complex heap buffer overflows, which
have
the potential to execute arbitrary code. A new tool that automates the
process of finding invalid HTML snippets, which cause problems with Web
browsers, was even released. Preliminary results indicate that all
browsers crash at one point or another. These findings only enforce the
concept of using security zones and not trusting arbitrary Web site
content while browsing the Web. Information about the MangleMe tool is
available at:
