1) On Location: Chicago Tribune
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-
a) Don't Stop the Presses!
By David Joachim
It's 6 a.m. on North Michigan Avenue, and the rain is coming down hard.
Even here, in downtown Chicago, the streets are eerily quiet as the
city
reaches out its collective hand and presses the snooze bar again. Who
would be doing business at this hour, in this weather? The answer is
standing in the lobby of Tribune Tower, headquarters to the Chicago
Tribune, one of America's oldest and largest newspapers. "In 157 years,
this paper has never missed a deadline," Darko Dejanovic, vice
president
and CTO at the Chicago Tribune, says with a wry smile. "We're not going
to start today."

b) Project and Vendor Management: On Time and Within Budget
By David Joachim
The Tribune's IT shop got the story right: It's implementing
initiatives
that will meet needs and ensure the paper always gets published. Here
are their keys to success.
