Novell Goes After SMBs with Channel Support Bundles
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Back when SUSE was still an independent company, it offered its eponymous Linux server, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, at a price that was competitive with other Linux platforms as well as Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 platform. And even though it was a German company that was only getting started in the North American market, at least from personal experience, its German tech support operations were excellent--and very inexpensive compared to other platforms. HP Partners to Create Water Cooling for Server Racks
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Unless you are a supermodel or a rock star, it is not cool to be hot anymore--particularly in the data center. IBM Revamps Entry xSeries Servers
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Server maker IBM last week revamped the entry machines in its xSeries product line, giving them a performance kick with Intel's latest 64-bit single-core Pentium and dual-core Pentium D processors. The entry server market has always been fiercely competitive, and the advent of dual-core processors and relentless price competition have only made it hotter. The new machines released by Big Blue aim to keep the company in step with Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Fujitsu-Siemens. READ MORE >

A Little More Insight into IBM's Server Sales in Q4 and 2005
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

While IBM provides a fair amount of detail concerning the growth and declines in its dozens of key product lines, it has very rarely only talked about the absolute revenue figures for any key product line--and certainly not since the Securities and Exchange Commission instituted regulations in the last decade that do not allow selective disclosure.
